Why did I become a hypnotherapist for skin conditions: My skin story

Why do I specialise in helping those with skin conditions? Because for me, that’s where it all started. It’s why I started therapy. So, here’s my story, perhaps you can relate?

-        Suffered with eczema on and off since childhood

-        Kept it under control through college and uni using occasional steroid creams

-        Skin became worse, more sensitive and more reactive as I got older

-        Eczema was severe enough to really impact my life from 2018

-        Phototherapy and strong steroids in 2019

-        Oral steroids in 2020

-        Noticed steroids were no longer working well, and flares would get worse after using them

-        Patch testing and allergy tests in 2020

-        Started working with a dietitian and therapist

-        Stopped all steroids late 2020

-        Found the skin community on Instagram and heard of TSW (topical steroid withdrawal)

-        Went on medical leave for 6 months, bed/sofa bound, then lost my job

-        Unemployed for a year, while healing in 2021

-        Flares on and off through 2022

-        Flare in 2023 was milder, but constant

-        Cryotherapy and acupuncture in 2023

-        Referred to dermatology, kept refusing steriods

-        Started immunosuppressants in 2024

Of course, alongside this was the anxiety, panic attacks, depression, specific phobias (e.g. showers), insomnia, social anxiety and skin picking. I tired acceptance and commitment therapy, behavioural therapy and sex therapy, before trying hypnotherapy. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy was the only one that stopped the panic attacks for me and worked long term, plus sessions were actually enjoyable.

So that’s why I’m here today. I’ve naturally fallen into this niche, because people suffering with skin conditions love to talk to someone who understands first hand.

If that sounds like you, please reach out. You can book a free consultation (link in bio) to find out more, or DM me.

You are not alone. You will get through this. And I’m here to support you.
